Hi, everybody!

I know I don't use my lj as a place to talk about all the things that happen in my life - I'm not consistent enough with posting - but I wanted to make a space to talk briefly about something that just happened. On Saturday, a really ugly fannish/personal situation occurred that upset me greatly. I didn't post about it when it happened and I don't want to get into it now because I have no interest in naming names or raking things over again, but here's what I do want to say: to all of you who reached out to me and made sure I felt supported and safe, thank you so much. It's really extraordinary, that we've built this community of people who will go out of their way to help each other out, and I'm so pleased that I'm part of it. You're fantastic.

And there are awesome things happening all the time, like doing favors for friends and catching up on stuff that makes you happy. I spent a recent weekend addressing envelopes for my BFF's wedding (I can fake calligraphy and he and his fiancee both have atrocious penmanship) while we ate delicious snacks and watched Northanger Abbey and North & South and Pushing Daisies (BFF stayed for the first, skipped the second, and returned for the third). I've got dinner with some awesome fangirls happening in less than a week. I'm reading some fascinating books and rereading some favorites. I keep jotting down notes for my next long Sherlock fic and I've started both my story for sherlock_remix and a birthday story for a friend. I've left prompts for oxoniensis's latest Porn Battle. I've perfected the recipe for a delicious lemon-blueberry cake that doesn't require eggs. And there's always theater!

A few weeks ago, I saw Stick Fly, which I enjoyed a lot, and then Million Dollar Quartet, which needed more story to go along with the music. And then last night I saw Seminar and was about ten feet away from Alan Rickman doing his best sneery intellectual. He was magnificent. Actually, the whole production was really cooking - every person on stage (Lily Rabe, Hettienne Park, Hamish Linklater, Jerry O'Connell) was sharp and focused - but then again, I have a weakness for stories about storytelling (I think everyone should read Wonder Boys and watch The Fall). The show explored some really interesting ideas, all in ninety minutes. (Only a few people on my flist will get why this amused me, but the two male students in the play are named Douglas and Martin; no prizes for guessing which one suffered from a lack of confidence and which one was just a touch pompous.) In the next few weeks, I'll be seeing four more shows (War Horse, A Man of No Importance, Total Bent, and Porgy and Bess) and then I think I'll cool it for a while until it gets warmer. Though I did note that the National Theatre production of One Man, Two Guvnors is coming soon (was it worth seeing?), and I do still want to see Other Desert Cities and Wit.

Off to clean the apartment (got a friend spending the weekend at my place) and make some dinner. How are you guys doing?

I'm glad that even when you were dealing with the worst of fannish+RL intersections, the best appeared to shore you up. *hugs*

That's a very apt way to put it - and thank you!
