So that's me in the icon, and I wanted to make an introductory post for foc_u. And while I have plenty of horror stories about how I have been treated as a reader and as a person, I wanted to do something celebratory instead of sorrowful.
So have a book rec!
The True Meaning of Smekday by Adam Rex is a delight. Gratuity (Tip) Tucci, our protagonist, is a marvelous creation. She's half-black, half-white, and entirely individual. She's smart, feisty, stubborn, and compassionate. And she saves the world, with a little help from an alien named J.Lo. As you can see, I'd make a terrible book reviewer, but I will say that I laughed so many times while I read this book, and I teared up a few times as well; when I finished it, I immediately flipped back to the beginning to start it again. It's been a long time since a book made me feel happier for having read it, and this one did it, even when things looked bleak for Tip and J.Lo.
