a song for a vid?

So at dinner last night I mentioned to dotfic that someone should make a Castiel vid from Heart's "Magic Man" (or at least the first verse), but then musesfool chimed in that she'd always thought of it as a Giles song. What do you think?

ETA:
Cold late night so long ago
When I was not so strong you know
A pretty man came to me
Never seen eyes so blue
You know I could not run away
It seemed we'd seen each other in a dream
It seemed like he knew me
He looked right through me, yeah
"Come on home, girl" he said with a smile
"You don't have to love me yet
Let's get high awhile
But try to understand
Try to understand
Try try try to understand
I'm a magic man."

Winter nights we sang in tune
Played inside the months of moon
Never think of never
Let this spell last forever
Summer lover passed to fall
Tried to realize it all
Mama says she's worried
Growing up in a hurry, yeah
"Come on home, girl" mama cried on the phone
"Too soon to lose my baby and my girl should be at home!"
"But try to understand, try to understand
Try try try to understand
He's a magic man, mama, ah ...
He's a magic man"

"Come on home, girl" he said with a smile
"I cast my spell of love on you, a woman from a child!
But try to understand, try to understand, oh ... oh ...
Try to understand
Try try try to understand
He's a magic man!" oh yeah
Oh, you've got the magic hands

"Come on home, girl" he said with a smile
"You don't have to love me yet
Let's get high awhile
But try to understand
Try to understand
Try try try to understand
He's a magic man." yeah ... oh ...

I think of magic as more of a Giles thing too.

Castiel is more supernatural heaven powered AngelMan than magic.

I was thinking of the first verse as Dean in hell, then Castiel rescuing him, Dean's flashbacks, the "you should show me some respect" line, the "what were you dreaming about?" line, stuff like that.

I never really thought of Giles as anything but paternal to Buffy, but musesfool did mention that it would work for Ripper!Giles. Hmmm.

GILES! GILES! GILES!

Ahem.

RUPERT "RIPPER" GILES, SUPER LIBRARIAN!

Now I'm sad I don't have a Giles icon.

Oh, the coffee commercial guy?

(Now I will stop teasing you. As a former librarian myself, of course I loved Giles! And I think he was particularly effective at comedy, with Snyder and with Cordelia, especially.)

Mmm, yes, it works very well for Giles! I can't really see it for Castiel.

See, I fail at imagining Giles as anything other than Buffy's dad!

I thought of some bits as being Buffy but other bits being Willow. ;)She had such a crush on him for years and (gaynow aside, since I think she's bi) I could see them getting together in very late canon or post-canon.

See, I still thought Willow thought of Giles as a kind of dashing uncle - she was so very hung up on Xander, and then so happy with Oz.

Are Castiel and Giles my only two choices? I've always thought of it as a Dean song (the magic in Dean's case being slightly more metaphorical).

WILLOW AND TARA: THEY ARE THE MAGIC! (Wow, that takes me back...)

That song is, like, the antithesis of how I see Giles. Possibly because it's impossible for me to imagine him being that appealing, even in his younger days.

But it doesn't really fit Castiel either.

You know who it does fit? Lucifer. *g*

Oooh, Lucifer! Yes, that would work!

I do think that Castiel has aspects we haven't seen, and I liked this song for him not as a parody, but as a way of hinting at what might lie beneath. Plus, Dean would be the girl, which I approve of.

Whee, this is like a bonus birthday present, you finding that song. Castiel and Giles, two of my favorite tv boyfriends, one song. \o/

I think it fits Castiel, definitely, and ripper!Giles.

Now I want Castiel and ripper!Giles fic, ahahaha. Together, they fight crime demons.

Also, I didn't actually know this particular song, but wow, I know a lot of their other songs, they're one of my favorite 80's bands. How on earth did I wind up with no Heart in my itunes??

I can't believe you didn't know this song! (And now I'm even happier that I declined to sing it in the restaurant.)
